A small glass widget that keeps time with YouTube Music, on any page you're reading.

-
Control it from the widget
Pause, skip or seek without switching tabs. Turn it off from the toolbar.

Privacy
The Lyriq extension has no account, no analytics and no server of its own. Here's what it asks your browser for, and what it sends anywhere.
What it can access
- Read and change data on websites you visit
- Needed to put the widget on the page you're on. On other sites it only adds the widget. On music.youtube.com it reads the player: song, artist, artwork and time.
- Tabs
- Finds your YouTube Music tab so the playback controls and the open-player button can reach it.
- Scripting
- Adds the widget to tabs that were already open before Lyriq loaded, and runs the controls inside YouTube Music's player.
- Storage
- Remembers your settings, where you left the widget and the current song. It stays on this device.
What leaves your browser
- Song details, to lrclib.net
- The title, artist and length of the song, to look up its lyrics. lrclib is a free, open lyrics database.
- A request for the album artwork
- The cover image is loaded from YouTube's image servers to pick the widget's colour. The colour is worked out on your device.
- Nothing else
- No tracking and no usage data leave your browser beyond the requests above.

Does the YouTube Music tab need to stay open?
Yes. Lyriq reads the song and the time from that tab, so keep it open. It can sit in the background; you don't need to look at it.
Does Lyriq play the music?
No. YouTube Music still plays it. The widget's controls just press play, pause, skip and seek in your YouTube Music tab.
What happens when a song has no lyrics?
The widget says "Lyrics not found" or "Instrumental" and shrinks to its title bar. It opens again on the next song that has lyrics, unless you minimized it yourself.
The lyrics are wrong or out of time. Can I fix that?
Lyrics come from lrclib.net, a community database, so timing can vary between songs. You can add or correct lyrics there, and Lyriq will pick up the change.
Can I turn it off on some pages?
Yes. Use the hide-on-this-site button on the widget to hide it on the current page only. Manage or clear those sites from the Hidden sites list in the toolbar popup. The close button, or the Overlay switch, still turns the widget off everywhere.
How do I get back to YouTube Music?
Click the album art on the widget. Lyriq focuses your YouTube Music tab so you can see the full player.
Which browsers does it work in?
It's built for Chrome and Chromium. Other Chromium browsers like Edge and Brave may work too, but aren't tested.
How do I install it?
Use the Get this in Chrome button on this site. It takes you to the Chrome Web Store listing so you can add Lyriq in one click.
Is it free?
Yes, it's free for personal use.
